International Scholars Program

The Department of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine offers a special track for a select group of physicians at the beginning of their careers who show the promise of becoming leading clinician investigators and leaders in academic medicine in major universities worldwide. Scholars are appointed and supported by the University of Pittsburgh to complete clinical training in Internal Medicine, initiate a research career under the supervision and guidance of clinician investigator mentors and develop skills essential for academic leadership to function as agents of change in their home institutions. Graduates of the Internationals Scholars are eligible for American Board of Internal Medicine certification. During their training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Scholars earn a Certificate in Clinical Research, successfully complete an independent research project with manuscript submission and are competitive for sub-specialty fellowship training. Candidates are selected on the basis of previously demonstrated potential in independent research, exceptional medical school performance and the support of the dean of their school of medicine.
